Who We Are
OUR STORY
We are a non-profit organization that has existed for over 20 years, supporting our community and people with Zimbabwean background
We respond to the needs of our growing community, small business owners and other self employment initiatives.
We work with underprivileged families, empower youth, create business ventures, build relations, host fundraising events and support other cultural organizations
What We Do
FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM
Through the Employment & Social Development Canada (ESDC) grant, our community has benefited from the COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Fund administered by United Way of the Lower Mainland. The grant increased the capacity of our organization to support community members with cultural food items when both availability and prices have been negatively affected by COVID-19 outbreak. Grocery is distributed once a month and the distribution date is set month-to-month. Distribution location and time details will be provided.
COVID-19 PANDEMIC
COVID-19 has revealed the vulnerabilities of our community members in employment. Our members need to be equipped with relevant skills to operate in the new economy. This needs to be done in a culturally appropriate setting. Whilst community members realize these weaknesses, most feel uncomfortable to go into training. Being trained by members of their community will remove the anxiety members feel. We intend to equip our members to be employers instead of relying on being an employee. Whilst they might be competent in their areas of operation, a number of them have shown they would benefit from new skills which include entrepreneurship and running small businesses
SENIORS SUPPORT PROGRAMS
Seniors and elders are the reservoirs and custodians of cultural knowledge. Their life experience guides the younger generations and ensures the preservation of culture. The program improves the participation of seniors and elders in community programs. It provides opportunities to mentor young community members. Seniors and elders also share and acquire knowledge on issues of interest like retirement planning, financial planning and knowledge sharing.
DISASTER RELIEF
The prevalence of natural disasters is increasing around the world including in Southern Africa. Zimbabwe has not been spared from perennial droughts and abnormal rainfall and hurricanes like IDAI in recent years. As global citizens and in particular having emigrated from Zimbabwe, we urge our community members to contribute to the relief efforts set up to assist those affected by these disasters.
