Who We Are
NITEO exists to support young readers to obtain critical literacy skills in order to build bright and hopeful futures. We are a "small but mighty" registered charity located in Kelowna, BC.
What We Do
Locally, we run a Family Reading Program for newcomer/refugee families in Kelowna. Volunteers meet with families once/week during our Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions for an afterschool program focused on developing literacy skills through group activities, games, and time spent reading together.
Globally, we collect donations of gently used children’s books to ship to partner organizations to establish community libraries in Uganda. We also provide literacy focused microgrants to partner organizations to further the work of literacy equity for all.
