Who We Are

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. Our Vancouver chapter has been operational since November 2018, and during this time, we have assisted over 1,000 survivors across the Lower Mainland.

What We Do

Shelter Movers collaborates with local businesses and community services (e.g. shelters, police, schools, services) who refer clients that have decided to leave an abuser, and have a safer place to go. Shelter Movers makes all the arrangements to move and store survivors’ belongings securely, on the clients’ terms. We empower survivors as they transition to a life free of violence.

Volunteering at Shelter Movers means contributing to a mission that will make a meaningful impact on families experiencing abuse and supporting survivors as they transition to a life free of violence. It also means playing a role in ending gender-based violence. We are growing and looking to add caring, compassionate, and dependable people to our team.
