Who We Are
The Windermere District Farmers Institute (WDFI)was incorporated originally on August 20th 1914, as the Windermere District Farmers’ Institute and Livestock Association. In East Kootenay, British Columbia. The Farming Institute members meet to support each other with farming related issues. Also a Season Farmers Market is run on the WDFI land and in the market building. The Certificate of Incorporation was re issued Markch 27th 2014. Website being www.wdfi.ca
What We Do
We operate a weekly Local Farmers Market In climate zone 4b. Selling local produce, beef, chicken, eggs, honey, baking, preserves.
The market operates during the season when local produce is available. As a member of the BC Association of Farmers Markets (BCAFM); the farmers accept BC Farmers Nutrition Coupons for all farm produce. The manager reimburses the farmers with BCAFM funds for the Nutrition Coupons that they receive. In 2024 more than $50,000 was paid out to small local farmers. Coupons having been received from Food Bank users , Seniors, Refugees, First Nation customers, including a broad spectrum of customers. Additionally this quality Fresh harvest produce and small production meat, and eggs are sold to Locals and Seasonal travellers. The coupons are issued and intended to increase healthy eating options for all.
