Writers' Exchange

Who We Are

The Writers' Exchange is a community that supports under-resourced kids and youth to build their confidence and get excited about reading, writing and their own potential! Every year over 350 under-resourced kids complete creative literacy projects and receive individualized attention from literacy volunteers to boost their reading, writing and self-confidence. All Writers' Exchange programs are FREE for the kids, youth and families we serve, so we could not exist without the help of amazing volunteers and generous donors.

What We Do

If you want to learn how memes can get kids and youth excited about reading, writing, and their own potential, and enjoy supporting kids and youth during scavenger hunts, and other fun and silly activities, then join our team of volunteers! We integrate reading and writing into creative activities motivated by the kids' and youths’ interests that, along with your support, boost self-confidence and engagement with literacy. At the end of the year, kids get to publish their favourite story in a professionally designed chapbook, which is celebrated at our Book Launch parties where they read their stories out loud to an audience of family and community members. You can find all 200 copies of the kids' publications on our website: https://vancouverwe.com/ The Writers' Exchange encourages applications from those who identify as Black, Indigenous, a person of colour, LGBTTIQQ2SA, a newcomer, an English Language Learner, a person with a disability, or any other community that has experienced patterns of discrimination.
