Volunteer: Cooking Class Leader Volunteer

The Cooking Class Leader Volunteer supports older adults during monthly cooking classes by assisting with kitchen tasks and, occasionally, leading the class. The role encourages participation, social connection, and skill-building in a safe and welcoming environment.


We will need the volunteer to start in August 2026. This is an ongoing position.


Key Responsibilities 

- Assist with kitchen setup, food preparation, and cleanup 

- Support seniors with cooking activities and related kitchen tasks 

- Occasionally plan recipes and lead the group in preparing meals 

- Engage socially with participants during and after class 

- Track volunteer hours and report to program staff 

 


Additional Information:    

- The cooking classes are done at the SHARE Food Bank location in Port Moody. 

- Volunteers are not requested to support clients with other tasks outside the cooking class.  

- The agency will provide aprons and any other safety equipment.  

- Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes and appropriate clothing.

SHARE Family and Community Services volunteers help seniors who live in the following areas: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. Our Better at Home programs support low or modest-income seniors with simple, day-to-day tasks that allow them to live independently and remain connected to their communities. 


What will you be helping with: 

- Make a difference in a senior’s day by driving them to their medical or non-medical appointment e.g. doctor’s clinic, pharmacy, bank, library, grocery store, recreation centre, etc.    

- Volunteers pick up their assigned senior/s at their doorstep, take them to their appointment and return them home.  

- Non-medical appointments are within the Tri-Cities and medical appointments may be in various areas across Metro Vancouver.  

Volunteers do not attend medical appointments. 


Qualifications Required:   

- Must be 21 years of age or older.  

- Willing to complete a criminal record check.  

- Valid driver’s license.  

-Willing to use your own vehicle (we reimburse for mileage) or an agency provided vehicle.  

- Proof of ICBC insurance, and a driver’s abstract.   

- Must have adequate insurance coverage. 

- Driver’s Abstract indicating a safe driving record. 

- Has some availability on weekdays between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

- Able to commit for at least 6 months.  

- Comfortable working with the senior population.   

- Patient, caring, and respectful demeanor.  

- Multilingual proficiency is an asset.
