Volunteer: Better at Home - Volunteer DriverApply: HERE Position DescriptionVolunteer Driver will provide transportation for frail, elderly seniors to enable them to get out of their homes and attend important medical appointments. Volunteer Driver position objectives: to improve the quality of life for seniors who are unable to take other forms of transportationVolunteer Driver is responsible for: Transporting riders from their homes to their destinations across the North Shore with occasional requests to Greater Vancouver for specialist appointments. Sometimes volunteers may stay with their rider or they may agree upon a pick up time Providing assistance to riders as needed Driving defensively and responsibly, obeying all traffic and seat belt laws Attending all required orientations and training Treating all riders with dignity and respect Maintaining confidentiality of information shared by participants Calling in if unable to make it for a scheduled shift Reporting any incidents and emergencies immediately to the Seniors Service Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator Keeping accurate records and submitting required reportsTime Commitment Ideally 3 – 6 trips per month with a 3 month commitment. Hours are typically between 9:00 am – 4:30 pm. Requirements be 21 years of age or older hold a valid driver’s license, registration and appropriate insurance have a minimum five years of driving experience have a good driving record – able to supply Drivers Abstract own a trustworthy vehicle and be responsible for the upkeep and safety of the vehicle. (We may use a cooperative car, in which case you wouldn’t need to provide your own vehicle) be in good physical and mental health be physically able to assist riders should it be required willingness to drive without distractions (cell phone, texting, ear pods, eating while driving) able to consistently drive defensively and obey traffic laws be skilled at maps and logistics Empathy, patience, good communication skills (especially listening skills), reliable and committedCriminal Records Check Requirements Yes including Vulnerable Sector Check References Two references required.
