Volunteer: Settlement Journey Support Team

Description:

Would you like to help new Canadians settle into their new community? Be part of a small group (2-4) of volunteers who are matched (by DIVERSEcity staff) with a newcomer family, to support them on their local settlement journey. As a team, you will provide holistic settlement support through general community introductions and orientation, connection to resources, language practice, and social integration (familiarizing them with the transit system, navigating childcare, finding a family doctor, etc.). Volunteers may also join their matched family at staff-led monthly Conversation Circle activities, supporting them in the development of conversational English.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Encourage your matched family to participate in Conversation Circle activities and join them if they ask.Show family members how to navigate in person and online services, such as healthcare, housing, banking, etc.Share your knowledge about CanadaAccompany your matched family members in the community to familiarize them with local services, resources, and spaces (parks, recreation centres, stores, financial institutions, bus stops, community service providers, etc.)Volunteers can take turns visiting and can share in the group’s members according to volunteers’ availability.Weekly interaction, minimum (4-8 hours a month).

The Seniors Team at DIVERSEcity is seeking Volunteers for our Hot Meal Program. Volunteers will help pack meals for seniors.

Responsibilities:

Pack Langar meals for clients at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar.Ensure all meals are packed according to guidelines and are ready for delivery.Follow health and safety protocols, including using provided PPE kits.Notify staff at the kitchen that you are a DIVERSEcity volunteer.

Requirements:

Must be in good health; please refrain from volunteering if you are unwell.Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

With every ride, you'll make a difference in your community and put a smile on a senior's face!

Responsibilities:

Deliver prepared meals to assigned clients' doorsteps on Tuesdays and Thursdays.Receive client details, addresses, and food quantities via email from the coordinator on Mondays and Wednesdays.Confirm availability by replying to the coordinator’s email.Collect meals from Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar before delivery.Record and report mileage at the end of each month (mileage report submission will be reminded via email).

Requirements:

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Good organizational skills and ability to follow delivery instructions.Must be able to handle meals with care and ensure timely deliveries.
