Volunteer: Transportation volunteers (Sea to Sky Region)

Join our supported transportation volunteer team at the Sea to Sky Better at Home Program!

Do you enjoy the company of seniors? Do you have good listening and communication skills?  Do you have a few hours a month to help? If so, help us build an inclusive and supportive community for seniors by providing transportation to their medical appointments.

We currently need supported transportation volunteers in Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton.

About This Role

When a senior in Squamish, Whistler, or Pemberton has limited transportation options and needs help getting to and from a medical appointment, we call upon our awesome roster of volunteers to help the senior make it to their appointment. Currently, we need to grow our roster to be able to respond to the requests that are coming in.

In this volunteer role, you would pick up the senior, assist them in getting to their medical appointment, and pick them up after the appointment to take them home. Some medical appointments happen within your community. However, an honorarium is offered if the medical appointment is outside of the community.

Our volunteers can accept or decline requests based on their availability; you are always free to say no!

We are looking for volunteers in the Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton areas who have good working vehicles and safe driving records. We offer an honorarium for those who drive seniors outside of the community.

We require a safe driving abstract and a minimum of $2m liability insurance for your vehicle.

Next steps:

Hit the respond button!   Meet with the Better at Home Coordinator in person or by phone.   Complete a criminal record check – vulnerable sector. This can be completed with us.  Sign a volunteer waiver form.   Complete an orientation process.

Make a difference in the life of a senior today.   You can apply for this opportunity through iVolunteer or contact us directly.  Christina Rupp: betterathome@sscs.ca or (604) 567-9090.

Volunteer: Grocery Shopping for seniors

Join our grocery shopping volunteer team atthe Sea to Sky Better at Home Program!

Do you have a vehicle and a couple of hours a month to make a difference in the life of a senior? If so, help us build an inclusive and supportive community for seniors through our grocery shopping program.

We occasionally need grocery shopper volunteers in Squamish and Pemberton.

About This Role

Based on your availability, we connect you with a senior, they will give you their grocery list and then you shop and drop off at the senior's home. Or you can shop with them by taking them to shop yourself. Volunteers can accept or decline requests based on their availability; you are always free to say no!

If you are shopping for a senior in Squamish, we have Save On Foods gift cards that you can pick up at our SSCS (Sea to Sky Community Services) office. We prefer that no money changes hands between a volunteer and a senior. In Pemberton we can make similar arrangements with Pemberton Valley Supermarket.

Next steps:

Hit the respond button!   Meet with the Better at Home Coordinator in person or by phone.   Complete a criminal record check – vulnerable sector. This can be completed with us.  Sign a volunteer waiver form.   Complete an orientation process.
