Volunteer: Mentors for Mentorship Program

Kamloops Immigrant Services (KIS) helps newcomers in Canada with free programs and services designed to reach their goals and dreams in their new life in Kamloops and the Thompson-Nicola Region.

Mentorship program empowers, inspires and builds friendships by matching mentors and mentees based on shared interests for three months.

This is the right role for you if you are someone who:

Friendly, reliable, and patient  Comfortable working with people of different ages and abilities  Good communication and interpersonal skills  Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team

Mentor's main tasks are:

Build a positive, respectful, and supportive relationship with your mentee  Provide guidance, share experiences, and help set and achieve goals  Meet regularly with your mentee (in-person or virtually, based on availability and program structure)  Maintain confidentiality and establish healthy boundaries  Communicate with program staff and participate in training or check-ins as needed

Previous experience required. No training provided

Time commitment: 1hr/week. We ask that volunteers commit to at least 3 months.

Have a criminal record check done by the RCMP (free as a volunteer) Have an interview meeting with a Mentee when matching is complete.

As a KIS Interpreter and translator you will provided accurate and confidential linguistic translation and interpretation services to a large number of agencies, businesses and individuals.

Main tasks are:
- Translate documents, flyers, and other written materials as needed.
- Provide real-time interpretation during meetings, workshops, or community events.
- Ensure accuracy and cultural sensitivity in all communications.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members.

Required:
Attend all required training, meetings and information sessions if offered. Sign a pledge of confidentiality and maintain confidentiality of client information.

Description: Our ongoing programs need volunteers to assist with the activities or events, such as the monthly potluck on the last Thursday of the month from 11:30-13:00 and the monthly art workshop on a Friday from 11:30-13:00 or 14:30-16:00.

You’ll be assisting with activities or events, like monthly potlucks, educational workshops, community events, sport and adventure activities, and much more.
