Volunteer: Drivers - Connecting Seniors with Care

Join the Better at Home team to help local seniors stay independent, nourished, and connected to our community. We offer flexible schedules, ongoing training/support, and direct mileage reimbursement ($0.65/km, or donatable for a tax receipt).


The Need: Escort seniors who no longer drive and do not have others available to support transportation. Drive them to medical and essential appointments safely, including return trips following procedures. Best suited for volunteers available during daytime hours.

What You’ll Do: Pick up clients, provide friendly conversation, drive them within the Comox Valley (or occasionally to Nanaimo/Campbell River), and return them home. You may walk clients to/from the reception desk if extra support is needed, but volunteers do not attend medical appointments.

Role Requirements: Valid BC Driver’s License, access to a vehicle in good operating condition, adequate insurance coverage, and a clean Driver’s Abstract.

Wat You’ll Do: Bridge the gap from isolation to inclusion by welcoming seniors at Community Connection Lunches, acting as a buddy for local outings (bingo, tai chi, coffee visits, park walks), or serving as a "Navigation Buddy" for BC Transit and local errands.

Join the Better at Home team to help local seniors stay independent, nourished, and connected to our community. We offer flexible schedules, ongoing training/support, and direct mileage reimbursement ($0.65/km, or donatable for a tax receipt). Below are the various food programs you can support. 

Social Meals Delivery (Weekly, ~3 hrs): Pick up prepared meals at LUSH, deliver to 6–8 seniors, and stay for a 5–30 minute social visit and check-in.

Good Food Box Delivery (Twice/month, ~2 hrs): Deliver fresh produce boxes from LUSH to seniors who love to cook.

Companion Grocery Shopping (Bi-weekly, ~2 hrs): Escort a senior to the store, assist with shopping or share a coffee, and help bring groceries inside.

Grocery Shop & Deliver / Online Ordering (Bi-weekly): Help seniors place online orders from home, or shop using a provided program card and deliver to their kitchen.
