Summit Helping Seniors Volunteer Opportunity:

 

Friendly Visiting with Seniors in Kimberley BC!

 

About this initiative

Summit Helping Seniors Friendly Visiting volunteers play a social role for seniors living in the Kimberley and Marysville area.  Our volunteer programs support seniors with simple, day-to-day tasks, allowing them to live independently and remain connected to their communities. As seniors seek to age in place, they can sometimes lose connection with friends and family. By connecting with seniors for some friendly company, caring volunteers can significantly reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, making a real difference in a senior’s life.

 

What you will be helping with:

•                     Meeting with a senior 1-2 times monthly in person and/or by phone.

•                     Collaborating with the senior to plan the activity you want to do together.

•                    Simple activities could include having friendly conversations, walking in the neighborhood, coloring, simple art projects, baking, having coffee or tea, playing cards or a game, reading, watching TV and talking about the program afterward, and connecting the senior with community resources.

 

Other Helpful Information:

•                     Select meeting times that meet your availability.

•                    This volunteer role would be a good fit for those with some free time during daytime hours and who enjoy spending quality time with others.

•                    This role requires a criminal record check and 3 nonfamily references to ensure the safety and well being of our seniors.

Volunteer Driver for seniors in Kimberley BC!

 

About this initiative

Our Summit Helping Seniors volunteer drivers help seniors who live in the Kimberley and Marysville areas. Our Better at Home programs support low or modest-income seniors with simple, day-to-day tasks that allow them to live independently and remain connected to their communities.

 

What you will be helping with:

Driving seniors and assisting them to get to their medical or other essential appointments. Picking the seniors up after the appointment to take them home. In some cases, a senior may need extra support. You may walk them to the reception desk and pick them up at the reception desk afterward. Volunteers do not attend medical appointments.

 

Other Helpful Information:

Select meeting times that meet your availability. Must have a valid BC Driver’s License. Must own or have access to a vehicle in good operating condition. Must have adequate insurance coverage (more information available). Driver’s Abstract indicating a safe driving record. This volunteer role would be a good fit for those with some free time during daytime hours. This role requires a criminal record check and 3 nonfamily references to ensure the safety and well being of our seniors.

Summit Helping Seniors Minor Home Repair

 

 Summary:

 

As a Volunteer Minor Home Repair Worker, you will be assisting seniors with tasks related to keeping them living independently in their own home.  Tasks may include changing light bulbs, changing door locks, fixing a loose piece of carpet or any minor request that helps keep the Senior healthy and safe in their own home such as touching up paint, minor wall repairs, fixing minor leaks, fixing weather stripping, replacing toilet seats or seals, and adjustment or replacing of curtain rods, showerheads or grab bars.

 

 

Key Activities:

 

-Have some level of home repair knowledge or the ability to take direction from the senior

-Assist seniors only with aspects of home repairs that they are not able to do for themselves

-Report any incidences and emergencies immediately

-Abide by a The Oath of Confidentiality Agreement related to senior information

-Take direction from the Program Coordinator or designate

-Respect and comply with Summit Family Services policies, procedures, codes of conduct and ethics

 

 

Other Helpful Information:

 

Minor Home Repair Volunteers will:

 

-Be responsible for their own transportation to and from the client’s home for deliver services

-Demonstrate patience, understanding and empathy for vulnerable populations

-Pass a criminal record check

-Be in suitable physical condition to perform the minor home repair duties that you agree to

-Be sensitive towards seniors and people from diverse cultures

-Have good communication skills

-Provide three (non-family) references

Summit Helping Seniors Light Yard Work

 

Summary:

 

As a Volunteer Light Yard Worker, you will be assisting seniors with yard tasks related to keeping them living independently in their own home.  Tasks limited to lawn maintenance, leaf raking, path clearing and light weeding in the general yard area.

 

Key Activities:

 

Light Yard Worker Volunteers will:

 

-Have some level of yard work knowledge or the ability to take direction from the senior

-Assist seniors only with aspects of yard work that they are not able to do for themselves

-Abide by the Oath of Confidentiality Agreement related to senior information

-Take direction from the Program Coordinator or designate

-Respect and comply with Summit Community Services policies, procedures, codes of conduct and ethics

Summit Helping Seniors Light Housekeeping Services

 

Summary:

 

As a Volunteer Housekeeper, you will be assisting seniors with housekeeping tasks related to keeping them living independently in their own home.  Tasks limited to light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, surface cleaning of floors, kitchens and bathrooms, cleaning and organizing the fridge, emptying the garbage/recycle/compost and making the bed.

 

Key Activities:

 

Housekeeping Volunteers will:

 

-Have some level of housekeeping knowledge or the ability to take direction from the senior

-Assist seniors only with aspects of housework that they are not able to do for themselves

-Abide by the Oath of Confidentiality Agreement related to senior information

-Take direction from the Program Coordinator or designate

-Respect and comply with Summit Community Services policies, procedures, codes of conduct and ethics

Community Collaboration Group Member

 

 Summary:

 

The main role of the Community Collaboration group is to act as a consultative body. The group is facilitated internally by a member and there is no external chair. The Collaboration group is to act upon request of the Better at Home Program Coordinator(s) or Manager with information, resources and at times, hands on assistance to achieve the Better at Home program’s goal.  Group members may act together or independently as required.

 

Key Activities:

 

Specific duties of the reference group could include:

 

-Supporting program improvement by making recommendations and proposals.

-Facilitating information sharing between stakeholders and other community members regarding the Better at Home program in Kimberley.

-Outreach, supporting volunteers and staff, promotion and advocacy.

-Sector integration: participating in local and regional sector activities.

 

Group members provide informed expertise, focused attention, and thoughtful input into policies and practices related to:

 

-client services

-service providers

-volunteer training

-partnerships and collaborations
