Volunteer: Volunteer Docent

Volunteer Docents play a crucial role in ensuring an exceptional experience for all visitors to the Kamloops Art Gallery, facilitating visitor engagement with exhibitions, programs, and the Gallery Store.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Greeting Visitors: Welcome visitors to the Gallery with enthusiasm and professionalism. Provide a friendly and welcoming environment as the first point of contact for visitors. Perform exceptional customer service: Greet, direct, and actively engage and assist visitors. Ensuring Accessibility: Ensure visitors have appropriate access to exhibitions, events, and programs. Provide accessibility assistance or information about accessible routes and facilities as needed. Providing Information: Collaborate with Gallery staff across departments to address visitor needs and resolve issues promptly. Become knowledgeable and offer information about the artists and exhibitions on view, current program offerings, and general operations of the Gallery. Be prepared to personalize connections for visitors through one-on-one or group conversation. Answering Inquiries: Respond to visitor inquiries in person and over the phone, providing information on Kamloops Art Gallery policies, accessibility, membership, donations, upcoming programs and events, and store merchandise. Maintaining Order and Security: Monitor galleries and public spaces to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors, artworks, engagement activities, and retail merchandise. Share and uphold Gallery policies regarding photography, touching artwork, and general behaviour. Membership and Donations: Promote Kamloops Art Gallery memberships and provide information on membership benefits. Encourage and offer information on donations or contributions to support the Gallery's programs and initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned, in support of the Gallery overall.
