Volunteer: Young Life Leader (Mentor)

Young Life is a Christian mission dedicated to loving and supporting teenagers in their world and encouraging them to know Jesus Christ.  We are all about being connected to the next generation - connecting them to trusted adult mentors, to one another, and to Jesus. 

 


As a Young Life Leader, you have the unique opportunity to walk alongside teens, building authentic relationships rooted in care and trust. You’ll be a consistent, safe presence in their lives, meeting them where they are and helping them discover hope, faith, and belonging. 

This is the right role for you if you are someone who: 

Is committed and passionate about serving teens  

Has a committed and growing relationship with Jesus Christ  

Is excited to grow in their leadership abilities   

Cares about teenagers, enjoys relating to them, and can meet them ‘in their world.’

Will honor the time and schedule commitments of this role  

A Young Life Leader’s main tasks are: 

Leading teens through school-based contact work, casual hangouts, and guiding them at Club and Camp 

Growing in leadership by joining team meetings, leadership gatherings, trainings, and retreats 

Leading and assisting at Club through games, skits, and sharing talks 

Taking teens to camp, guiding cabin times, and mentoring through one-on-one conversations 

Discipling Campaigners by mentoring new Christians, teaching the Bible, and fostering teen leadership 

Training & Experience 
Training is provided through regular leadership gatherings, retreats, and ongoing mentorship. No prior ministry experience is required—what matters most is a growing relationship with Christ and a willingness to learn and serve.


Time commitment: 

6 to 8 hours per week. This includes:  

SNL - Sunday Night Leadership meetings 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kamloops Free Methodist Church (975 Windbreak St.)  

Young Life Club Thursday 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Kamloops Free Methodist Church (975 Windbreak St.)  

Additional touchpoints with teens (flexible to fit each leaders schedule)

A Capernaum Leader’s main tasks are: 

Leading teens through contact work, casual hangouts, and guiding them at Club and Camp 

Growing in leadership by joining team meetings, area gatherings, trainings, and retreats with support from Capernaum staff 

Leading and assisting at Club through games, skits, and talks, while adapting activities to be accessible for all teens 

Supporting Capernaum teens at camp through one-on-one care, cabin times, and mentoring 

Discipling Campaigners by mentoring new Christians, teaching the Bible, and helping them grow in faith and leadership 

 


Training & Experience 
Leaders receive training, mentorship, and ongoing support from Capernaum staff to help create inclusive and welcoming spaces. No prior ministry or disability support experience is required—just a heart to serve, a willingness to learn, and a growing relationship with Christ. 

 


Time commitment: 

6 to 8 hours per week. This includes:
