The Westside Multiculturalism Day takes place annually on the last Saturday of June! This year's Westside Multiculturalism Day is taking place on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at Constable Neil Bruce Middle School in West Kelowna. This year's event is incredibly special as it will be the 5th anniversary of the Westside Multiculturalism Day, and it will be the first time that the event takes place on Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27). Organized by the Westbank Museum, it is a free, family-friendly event celebrating the diversity of the Greater Westside! There will be cultural pavilions representing over 30 different community groups from across the world, with information, educational opportunities, activities to participate in, and food samples to try! There will also be cultural performances that take place from 10:15 AM - 1:00 PM! Stay tuned for a full schedule of performances. Additionally, there will be several free cultural workshops from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at this year's Westside Multiculturalism Day. United Way BC's booth will be on the grounds, so we can share this day with the Community! We will have multiple activities for kids and adults. Kids can be entertained by button making, prize wheel and coloring sheets. We would love to invite enthusiastic volunteers to join us in the booth, helping with set-up, wrap-up and activities for kids and adults. Volunteer: Volunteer Welcome Kit Organizer (Kamloops)When people arrive in a new community - often after a difficult or sudden transition - small practical items can make the first days feel a little more manageable. Welcome kits are a simple way to offer care, dignity, and a sense that someone is glad they're here. The BC Safe Haven program offers free help to refugee claimants in British Columbia. The program offers many kinds of support to help people settle, build stability, and participate in the community.
The Welcome Kit Organizer helps put together welcome kits for individuals and families who are newly arrived or displaced and settling into local BC communities. Volunteers can also apply for a United Way BC Hi Neighbour Local Love microgrant of up to $1,000 (see notes under "A few things to know") to help cover the cost of supplies and, if helpful, support a small, welcoming kit distribution event. Key responsibilities: Decide how many kits to create for refugee claimants supported by BC Safe Haven partner agenciesCreate a simple list of items (for example: basic toiletries, small comfort items for children, transit passes or local information)Purchase or coordinate the purchase of itemsAssemble the welcome kitsWork with local Hi Neighbour staff and the BC Safe Haven Volunteer Coordinator to plan delivery, pick-up, or a small distribution that feels warm and respectfulTime commitment and location: Flexible, short-term role (about 1-4 weeks, depending on the number of kits and your availability)Most tasks can be done from home or in a community spaceA few things to know: This opportunity is open to residents of Kamloops. We welcome volunteers who can make short, long, or sometime commitments. · Driving on Tuesdays on a regular basis. · Driving on Tuesdays for a 2-3 month period. · Driving as a relief driver to help cover vacations and absences. · Driving for a 10-week commitment 2 times a year (days of the week needed will vary). · Other?
