We need your help!
We're looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks from sorting, decorating, stocking the Toy Shop, packing and helping families with their toy gift bags, helping with registration, and more!
Since 1972 Mission Community Services Society’s (MCSS) Christmas Bureau has made a difference in the lives of thousands of vulnerable families by providing festive food hampers and toys at Christmas time.
We create 700 nutritional hampers each week for vulnerable families consisting of produce, dairy and meat. That equates to over 2,000 individuals fed by your efforts each week along with diverting close-dated food from the landfill.
Join us as an individual, meet new people, and share your skills! Or join us as a team, family, or corporate group to give back during the holiday season and support families and children this Christmas!
To volunteer as a group or school/class, please respond to the post or click here to register as a group to volunteer!
How this works
Once you have received a confirmation of your shift, volunteer gear, and instructions from the MCSS Community Resources Coordinator, you are all set to volunteer!
Arrive at the Christmas Bureau location 10 minutes before your shift. You’ll be met by an MCSS staff member, who will provide you with a disposable mask and brief you on your task.
During your shift please remember to maintain physical distancing by keeping a 2-metre distance between yourself and others.
Contact: If you have further questions about this volunteer opportunity, please contact at jasmines@missionmcss.com.
Time Commitment: 5 hours (shifts are available, see below)
This is a recurring commitment to fulfill an immediate need. You may sign up for one or more shifts.
If you are unable to stay the complete 5 hours, please let us know and we will adjust your shift!
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR VOLUNTEERS
Criminal Record Check & Volunteer Agreement Forms must be completed to volunteer. This information will be emailed once you sign-up!
Please contact Jasmine at jasmines@missionmcss.com immediately if:
- you feel unwell before or on the day of your shift. Please stay home and do not volunteer.
- you are unable to fulfill your shift commitment. If possible, please try to provide a minimum notice of two days to allow us to make alternate arrangements or find another volunteer.
REMINDER
It’s important to unregister yourself from the shift if you're unable to fulfill your commitment – this will allow another volunteer to register for your spot.
Your health and safety are important to us
Maintain physical distancing by keeping a minimum 2-meter distance between you and any other person not in your immediate family.
Wearing a non-medical mask or face covering while out in public is recommended for periods of time when it's not possible to consistently maintain a 2-metre physical distance from others, particularly in crowded public settings.
Avoid touching your face and in particular your eyes, nose and mouth.
Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands thoroughly and often. Wash hands with soap for a minimum of 20 seconds and rinse under clean running water.
If you are unwell, please stay home and do not volunteer. If you are at all unsure of your health status, the BC Centre for Disease Control’s online self-assessment tool is available at https://covid19.thrive.health/.
