About the event:
United Way Period Promise increases access to free menstrual products in our community so that everyone who menstruates can go to work, get to school, access services, and stay connected to their community. Every donation of period products raises awareness, reduces stigma, and tackles the vulnerability and isolation caused by period poverty. This collection drive is an effort to gather products for those in need. Volunteering at this event is a great way to positively impact your community!
About the role:
We need four enthusiastic volunteers to help us at South Coquitlam's Period Promise collection drive event at Como Lake Shopping Centre. Volunteers will be integral to the event's success, assisting with setup, serving refreshments, and helping with teardown after the event.
Key responsibilities:
Pre-event set up: All volunteers are asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. to help set up tents, tables, chairs and the food station.
Serving refreshments: Volunteers will serve or offer light refreshments to attendees and keep the food station clean.
Event teardown: All volunteers will help teardown and clean up after the event.
Safety Tips:
- Please wear comfortable, close-toed shoes to protect your feet during setup and teardown.
- Always bend at the knees, not the waist, to avoid back strain when lifting heavy objects. If an item is too heavy, please ask for assistance.
- This is an outdoor event. Please dress for the weather. As it may be cold and rainy, we suggest dressing in layers and wearing a rain jacket.
Why volunteer with us?
- Directly impact your community and help those in need.
- Gain valuable skills and experience in community outreach and event management.
- Meet like-minded people, make new friends and expand your network.
- Experience the satisfaction of giving back to your community.
- Volunteer experiences boost your resume, which can improve your career prospects!
