About this Initiative

United Way BC Emergency Response focuses on helping people during times of crisis by filling in gaps where needed at the grass roots level.

As part of our emergency preparedness work, we are supporting community to be ready in response to wildfire smoke in the community through a DIY workshop to build their own air filter.

The workshop, created in partnership with the City of West Kelowna, Interior Health Authority, and Simon Fraser University, also highlight information on emergency preparedness tailored specifically for seniors, pregnant women & families with young children.

Volunteering will take place at the West Kelowna Library.

What you will be helping with:

  • Helping with room setup and cleanup
  • Moving supplies
  • Assisting workshop participants with tasks (ex. taping, holding fans and filters)
  • Answering general questions from participants

Other Helpful Information:

  • This volunteer role is located INDOORS
  • Orientation and training provided at start of shift.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring minimal belongings as there may not be a secure place for them while volunteer.
