Crisis Line Volunteers provide confidential, compassionate support to individuals experiencing sexual violence, domestic violence, or other forms of gender-based violence. As a volunteer, you’ll answer calls to our 24-hour anti-violence crisis line, offering emotional support, information, and connection to local services—often being the first voice someone hears in their time of need.Through your calm presence and willingness to listen, you’ll help survivors feel heard, supported, and empowered to take their next step.

This is the right role for you if you are someone who:

  • Cares deeply about supporting survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Is an empathetic listener and can stay calm in emotionally intense situations.
  • Has access to a phone and can answer calls during evening, overnight, or weekend shifts.
  • Is reliable, mature, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Can commit to at least 4 shifts per month for a minimum of one year.
  • Is open to learning and participating in reflective training.

    A Crisis Line Volunteer must:
  • Answer calls to the 24-hour crisis line during scheduled shifts using your personal phone (our number is directed to your personal phone—callers DO NOT have access to your phone number).
  • Provide emotional support, information, and referrals to appropriate services.
  • Communicate with the on-call Crisis Response Worker for in-person accompaniment requests from Royal Inland Hospital.
  • Complete 8 weeks of training (2 hours/week) before beginning your volunteer shifts.
  • Submit your availability each month to the Crisis Response Coordinator.

    Time Commitment:

    Volunteers commit to attend a training session and a minimum of 4 shifts per month for at least 1 year.

    Weekday shift options:
    4:30 pm – 12:00 am
    12:00 am – 8:30 am

    Weekend shift options:
    8:30 am – 4:30 pm
    4:30 pm – 12:00 am
    12:00 am – 8:30 am

    Our next training session will run in October & November 2025. Volunteer training cohorts are held 2–3 times per year.
