Theatre Usher/Concession Volunteer helps create a welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable experience for every guest who walks through our doors. Whether guiding patrons to their seats, assisting with ticketing, or serving refreshments at the concession stand, this role supports the smooth, safe, and vibrant operation of our theatre performances and events.
By volunteering as an Usher or Concessions Helper, you play a key part in making live theatre memorable and inclusive. Your warm hospitality and attention to detail help ensure audiences feel comfortable and cared for — enhancing their connection to the arts and supporting the artists who bring each story to life.
This is the right role for you if you are someone who:
- Has a friendly demeanor and enjoy interacting with the public
- Doesn’t mind standing in one place for an hour or two
- Are okay with a fast paced environment during rushes
- Loves film and wants to support your local indie cinema
Shifts are for 3-4 hours, approximately 6:15pm-9:30pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 2 shifts. On occasion we may ask volunteers to help in additional positions in case of poor weather, busier events, or to sell raffle tickets.
When being a Concession Volunteer you will:
- Pop, butter and bag popcorn.
- Dispense drinks.
- Sell candy and other snacks.
- Sweep the lobby of spilled popcorn.
When being a Theatre Usher you will:
- Scan ticket codes with provided device.
- Check tickets and names from the guest list provided by the staff.
- Handing out pamphlets and flyers as needed.
- Closing the theatre doors as the pre-film show begins.
- Opening the theatre doors as the credits begin.
All volunteers are welcome to leave their posts to watch the film once it has begun. While in the theatre watching the film, volunteers are also asked to watch out for illicit recording.
After the film has ended and patrons are leaving, all volunteers are asked to go through the theatre to pick up drink containers, candy wrappers and popcorn bags.
Volunteering in this role offers you:
- Exclusive perk: Volunteers can sit in on the movie of their choosing and get a free small drink and small popcorn as a thank you for their hard work
- A sense of connection: Join a dedicated team of volunteers, artists, and staff who share a passion for the arts, and build lasting relationships with like-minded individuals.
- A chance to make a difference: Your time and effort directly impact the theatre’s ability to provide affordable and accessible entertainment to the community.
- Experience in a public facing role, that you can add to your resume.
We're also looking for people who might be a great fit for a more outreach or social media-focused volunteer role, so if you feel your skills align with that and would love to support your local independent theatre, we'd be happy to consider you for it!
