Description

The Interior Women’s Centre Society is a community organization dedicated to empowering women and families. We provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space where women can access support for challenges such as legal issues, housing, and advocacy. Our goal is to help women overcome barriers and build independent, sustainable futures. 

As a Volunteer Legal Liaison, you will provide critical support to women at the Interior Women’s Centre Society, helping them navigate the legal system, access court-related resources, and connect with legal assistance. By volunteering in this role, you’ll make a meaningful difference in women’s lives while gaining valuable experience in advocacy and community support.

  • Understand the challenges women face in accessing legal services. 

  • Can provide practical and emotional support during stressful situations. 

  • Are organized and able to manage multiple tasks, including scheduling, record-keeping, and client follow-up. 

  • Believe in social justice, equality, and the importance of access to legal support for marginalized individuals. 

  • Are passionate about advancing women’s rights and ensuring access to essential resources. 

  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach. 

  • Can maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive legal matters with professionalism and respect. 

A Legal Liaison Volunteer’s main tasks are: 

  • Coordinating appointments with our partner, the Thompson Legal Clinic. 

  • Facilitating Human Rights and Legal Rights Cafes. 

  • Advocating for clients’ legal needs. 

  • Assisting women with practical needs related to legal proceedings, such as: 

  • - Obtaining appropriate attire for court hearings 

  • - Arranging transportation 

  • - Supporting women exiting remand 

Time Commitment:

This is a volunteer position with flexible hours. The expected time commitment is approximately 8-12 hours per week, with shifts available during business hours. The volunteer should be able to commit to a regular schedule for consistency.



On-the-job training and a centre orientation will be provided. Beneficial qualifications include: 

  • Background in legal studies, law, social work, or a related field (an asset). 

  • Experience in community-based work or client advocacy, especially supporting women facing legal challenges. 

  • Strong understanding of legal systems, particularly family law and human rights, and the barriers women face in accessing justice. 

  • Ability to explain legal processes clearly, empathetically, and accessibly.
