Literacy in Kamloops (LinK) is a community organization dedicated to promoting literacy for people of all ages in the Kamloops area. We work in partnership with schools, libraries, and other community groups to provide programs and resources that support reading, writing, and lifelong learning.
As a Come Read with Me Volunteers you will build reading confidence and have fun! Reading Program Volunteers connect with students through one-on-one time with a caring, patient adult, building students’ self-confidence, improving their reading fluency and comprehension.
This is the right role for you if you are someone who:
Enjoys working with children
Has good English language skills
Is comfortable reading to others
Are patient, encouraging, and reliable
A Come Read with Me Volunteer’s main tasks are:
Meet with assigned student(s) once per week during school hours
Engage in reading activities using provided materials and strategies
Encourage and support students in a positive and respectful manner
Build a child’s reading confidence
Experience working with children an asset but not required!
Free training (learn about the program, practice reading strategies and games) and support is provided. Fall training dates: September 29th 5:30pm-8:30pm, October 7th 9am-12noon at the Henry Grube Education Centre
Time commitment:
Shifts are during school hours once a week for 12 weeks starting mid-October. We ask that volunteers commit to 2 hours per week.
