The DTES Neighbourhood House is looking for 1 or more volunteers who can take on a special fundraiser project at our urban farm. This project takes place on the afternoon of Wednesday July 28.
VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- pick violas that are at our urban farm (located at Hawks & Hastings next to the Astoria Hotel)
- help with processing the violas/getting them ready to be delivered
YOU'D BE A GOOD FIT FOR THIS ROLE IF:
- you are available for the afternoon of July 28.
- you don't mind being outside, picking violas.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
An incredibly dedicated volunteer has started the viola fundraiser project all on their own and normally takes care of the entire project duties, however they will be out of town from July 25-31 which is why we're looking for someone else to fill in. Due to CRA regulations, any fundraiser the DTES NH does has to be completely done by volunteers. The restaurant at the Fairmont Hotel orders the violas from us because they are edible, and are used in cocktails. 100% of the money raised from this project goes back into the urban farm. The urban farm is an incredibly important initiative that allows the DTES Neighbourhood House to grow organic produce for the meals we serve to DTES residents. A lot of the produce also goes directly to DTES residents. The urban farm is becoming a space for community-building, celebration, and education. We hold Community Drop-In and Family Drop-In programs at the farm to share knowledge about growing food. Other organizations including WISH, DEWC, Hives for Humanity, and the Dudes Club also use the farm for their own programs & projects.
This project is shaping up to be a respectable fundraiser, which the volunteer can take pride in contributing to and supporting the urban farm and DTES community. Volunteering for this project will provide an opportunity to spend time outside in a beautiful farm, meet new people, and listen to music while you work if you'd like to.
There is an opportunity to continue working on the project in August as well for anyone who is interested.
