About the event:
Celebrate the spirit of the season with our Community Christmas Dinner, a special occasion to bring together community members for an evening of warmth, connection, and delicious food. Enjoy a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, including homemade cranberry sauce, freshly baked bread, and fresh herb stuffing. Prepared by a talented Red Seal chef, this meal promises to be both nutritious and delightful.
This gathering offers an opportunity to meet new people, share stories, and build a sense of belonging and community. Whether you're looking to make new friends, enjoy a hearty meal, or simply be part of a supportive community, everyone is welcome to join us for this festive occasion. After the meal, we invite you to join us for the church's longest night of the year service, as much as you feel comfortable.
About this role and responsibilities:
We are seeking two (2) volunteers to assist with general meal and kitchen preparation for the Community Christmas Dinner. This role is ideal for individuals looking to give back to the community, those interested in gaining experience in the kitchen and event planning, newcomers to Canada wanting to practice their English and gain local experience, students needing volunteer hours, and anyone who enjoys working in a team and meeting new people. Plus, you are invited to join the guests for the dinner on December 18th!
Time: 1:30 PM - 6 PM.
Please arrive by 1:30 PM, ready to help. If you need to start a little later, please let us know, as there is some flexibility with the start time. We aim to finish no later than 6 PM.
Orientation Meetings:
Volunteers must attend one orientation meeting. These meetings allow volunteers to meet each other, learn about task details, and familiarize themselves with the layout of the kitchen and venue and the tools needed for food prep.
Location: Enter at the back of the church through the hall doors.
Dates and Times: Two dates are available. Please select the one that works best for you. Snacks will be provided.
Option 1: December 11th from 5 PM - 6:30 PM
Option 2: December 14th from 12 PM - 2PM or 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM (SEE NOTES)
NOTES: the specific time will depend on volunteer availability. The church's thrift shop is open for business from 10 AM - 2 PM. You are welcome to stop by before the orientation on December 14th to shop for great deals on Christmas decorations and quality household goods!
