Why Join Our Board?
Because your leadership can change someone’s hardest day. At VCDS, every decision we make directly supports a patient who needs help getting to life-saving care. When you join our Board, you’re not just lending your expertise, you’re helping ensure thousands of people across our communities can face cancer with dignity, compassion, and reliable support. If you want your skills to matter in a deeply human way, this is where they will.
About the Organization
The Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society (VCDS) is an all-volunteer, registered charitable organization providing complimentary transportation for cancer patients across Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
Our Board includes up to 11 Directors and strives for gender balance, regional representation, and inclusivity, reflecting the communities we serve. As the Society continues evolving, the Board is shifting from an operational model toward a more clearly defined governance structure. Directors still oversee key portfolios, but the long-term direction is toward strategic leadership, policy development, and stewardship.
Role of Director
As a VCDS Director, you’ll help guide the organization through this transition while supporting the portfolios that keep our services running smoothly. Directors contribute to strategic planning, expand partnerships, strengthen community relationships, and help ensure VCDS remains a reliable, compassionate service for cancer patients.
Board members attend meetings (in-person or via Zoom), participate in community events, and play an active role in Board discussions and decision-making.
We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise or strong working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Legal
- Government Liaison or Advocacy
- Fundraising and Donor Relations
- Industry Liaison / External Partnerships
- IT / Technology
Location Requirement: Because the Board meets in person several times per year, candidates should reside in the Greater Vancouver or Fraser Valley region of British Columbia.
