The Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) Puppy-raising Program comprises a dedicated group of trainers committed to achieving positive outcomes for our PADS dogs and volunteers. We recognize that the backbone of our program is our volunteers, and strive to serve them with compassion, knowledge, and a solution-seeking mindset. Puppy-raisers are the volunteers who take young, rambunctious puppies and shape them into capable assistance dog trainees ready to enter Advanced Training. Puppy-raisers focus on three areas of training: Skills (such as walking on a loose leash, sitting), Manners (settling well, appropriate household behaviour) and Socialization (having confidence in the world around them) using scientific evidence-based training that takes the dog’s well-being into consideration.Puppy-raising is a full-time volunteer opportunity, with weekly puppy class instruction to help the raiser and puppy grow their skills. Training support, including one-to-one training, is available, as well as scheduled assessments to track the puppy and puppy raiser's progress, and provide Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to focus on areas where the puppy or team is struggling. Our raisers are a diverse group, including students, retirees, professionals and families. Raising appeals to different people for different reasons, including: the prospect of changing lives gaining dog training experience geeking out over behaviour wanting to be part of a great community knowing that when you travel or aren’t able to care for the puppy that there is a great puppy-sitting community to provide care shorter time commitment than getting a pet dog, and not watching a dog grow old and frail wanting to have a dog, but have a busy lifestyle and spend most of the day away from homePrior to filling out the application please review the following to see if this is the right volunteer role for you at PADS. Community and Continuity Puppy-raisers and puppies are assigned to a cohort led by a trainer. In most cases, the team will stay in this cohort throughout the puppy’s time in puppy-raising. This allows Puppy-raisers to develop a community, be supported by the same coaches, and have continuity of care, with trainers developing a good understanding of a puppy’s struggles and strengths over time. The Men’s Drop-In Program is a new service operating every other Saturday with a mission to meet the basic needs of our community’s most vulnerable members by providing shower, laundry and clothing services, as well as a hot lunch. By meeting these needs, we uphold each person’s dignity, self-respect and sense of self-worth. The Drop-In Program volunteer team will work directly with men who are experiencing homelessness and/or substance use in providing laundry and clothing services, as well as prepping and serving a hot lunch and refreshments. This is part of a larger service that also includes showers, overdose prevention services, harm reduction services and connection to resources, of which volunteers may also assist with. To be successful in this position, volunteers will: Be aged 18+. Provide services with empathy and compassion, and foster an environment of anti-stigmatism that will meet our visitors “where they are at”. Look through a harm reduction lens to support people experiencing substance use. Participate in mandatory training before their first volunteer shift. This includes Overdose Prevention training (Naloxone training), training in providing harm reduction services and conflict prevention in the context of saying no. All data and information will remain the property of Wildlife Rescue and be treated confidentially. Assisting waterfowl families who have nested in areas where the young cannot get to a safe location without intervention, often rooftops and high-rise balconies; Providing minimal disturbance and interference to the waterfowl families by providing an immediate release to the nearest water source; Educating the public on the challenges faced by urban wildlife, and advocating for the importance of wildlife in the urban environment, and to educate on the work of Wildlife Rescue; and Recording and logging all hours on MyImpactPage.
Time Commitment Participants in this seasonal program will provide a calendar of availability for the duration of the season (mid-March-June). Volunteers will be contacted by Team Leads and/or Helpline staff and volunteers on the days of the week they have communicated availability. Rescues can take place from dawn to dusk (in the summer this can be 7am-9pm). They tend to take approximately 1-3 hours but can often take longer than anticipated so volunteers may need to stay longer to reach a safe outcome for the waterfowl. A team can also complete multiple rescues back-to-back in one day. Team members will need to allow for the time it takes to travel to and between rescue locations.

Offsite job responsibilities include transporting wildlife or supplies/necessities to or from our site and collecting information from members of the public regarding animals being transported Onsite job responsibilities include assisting Admissions staff or volunteers in completing wildlife admission forms Assisting in minimizing animal stress and suffering by minimizing noise and other stressors during transport Recording and logging all trips on MyImpactPage Transport Drivers may also be requested to pick up pre-purchased supplies (food, medications, etc.) from local suppliers or donors. Transport Drivers may also opt-in to purchasing certain supplies and being reimbursed by Wildlife Rescue, although this is not a requirement of the position
Please note there is no animal handling expected of Transport Drivers. Transport Drivers may receive further training to assist with handling during animal rescues or in conducting animal releases.

In conjunction with OnePass, youth apply to join Youth Council. We have 11 seats available for youth in Mission. Youth who sit on the council are tasked with being a representative of all youth in the community, and they speak to concerns that youth have. They then work towards funding programs that help with alleviating or supporting the community. Volunteer: AECFV VolunteerPurpose of Position The vision of Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia is to continually improve the welfare of urban wildlife. Our mission is to provide leadership in rehabilitating wildlife and in promoting the welfare of wild animals in the urban environment. We run a wildlife hospital located on a single site at the edge of Burnaby Lake. We treat over 6,000 wild birds and bats each year and provide public education through 30,000 calls to our Wildlife Helpline. Our Business Operations department plans, coordinates and oversees all our programs including development, communications, resources and volunteering. Each year, 250 volunteers participate in a range of positions both on and off site. We are currently seeking volunteers to help transport wildlife patients and supplies to and from Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley (AECFV) to our wildlife hospital. AECFV Transport Drivers are accountable to the Support Centre’s staff and volunteers for responding to transport requests on Saturdays and representing Wildlife Rescue to partners and the public in a positive and professional way.
All volunteers must be 16 years or older and provide a Criminal Record Check, proof of up-to-date tetanus vaccination and full Covid-19 vaccination.
Qualifications We are looking for: Comfortable having basic conversations with members of the public Available on Saturdays Vehicle access: Valid Driver’s License Regular access to own vehicle Insurance coverage (check with your insurance broker to be sure your insurance covers volunteer driving) Winter tires may be required for some transports
Deliverables The AECFV Transport Volunteer is expected to ensure the highest standards of practice are achieved and maintained in accordance with the mission, vision and values of WRA, and to ensure adherence to all policies and legal requirements. All data and information will remain the property of Wildlife Rescue and be treated confidentially. While transporting patients, AECFV Transport Drivers are expected to place patient welfare and safety first. This means driving in a defensive manner, keeping noise in the vehicle to a minimum, and following any patient-specific instructions from Support Centre staff or volunteers. Offsite job responsibilities include transporting wildlife or supplies/necessities to or from our site and collecting information from Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley regarding animals being transported Onsite job responsibilities include assisting Admissions staff or volunteers in completing wildlife admission forms Assisting in minimizing animal stress and suffering by minimizing noise and other stressors during transport Recording and logging all trips on MyImpactPage Transport Drivers may also be requested to pick up pre-purchased supplies (food, medications, etc.) from local suppliers or donors. Transport Drivers may also opt-in to purchasing certain supplies and being reimbursed by Wildlife Rescue, although this is not a requirement of the position Call AECFV on Saturday mornings to check if there any patients that need to be transported to WRA If no animals need to be transported, if interested you might be able to help when we have transports available from the Langley area that need to come to our Wildlife Hospital
Please note there is no animal handling expected of AECFV Transport Drivers.
Time Commitment All Wildlife Rescue volunteers start with a minimum commitment of 100 hours. Most AECFV Transport Drivers have a set scheduled day per week that they do transports as well as have the option to be on-call with their availability should they want to do more transports. Two transports per month must be completed to remain active on the AECFV Transport Team. Our mission is to provide leadership in rehabilitating wildlife and in promoting the welfare of wild animals in the urban environment. We run a wildlife hospital located on a single site at the edge of Burnaby Lake. We treat over 6,000 wild birds and bats each year and provide public education through 30,000 calls to our Wildlife Helpline. Our Business Operations department plans, coordinates and oversees all our programs including development, communications, resources and volunteering. Each year, 250 volunteers participate in a range of positions both on and off site. We are currently seeking volunteers to help transport wildlife patients and supplies to and from Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley (AECFV) to our wildlife hospital. AECFV Transport Drivers are accountable to the Support Centre’s staff and volunteers for responding to transport requests on Saturdays and representing Wildlife Rescue to partners and the public in a positive and professional way.
All volunteers must be 16 years or older and provide a Criminal Record Check, proof of up-to-date tetanus vaccination and full Covid-19 vaccination.
Qualifications We are looking for: Comfortable having basic conversations with members of the public Available on Saturdays Vehicle access: Valid Driver’s License Regular access to own vehicle Insurance coverage (check with your insurance broker to be sure your insurance covers volunteer driving) Winter tires may be required for some transports
Deliverables The AECFV Transport Volunteer is expected to ensure the highest standards of practice are achieved and maintained in accordance with the mission, vision and values of WRA, and to ensure adherence to all policies and legal requirements. All data and information will remain the property of Wildlife Rescue and be treated confidentially. While transporting patients, AECFV Transport Drivers are expected to place patient welfare and safety first. This means driving in a defensive manner, keeping noise in the vehicle to a minimum, and following any patient-specific instructions from Support Centre staff or volunteers. Offsite job responsibilities include transporting wildlife or supplies/necessities to or from our site and collecting information from Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley regarding animals being transported Onsite job responsibilities include assisting Admissions staff or volunteers in completing wildlife admission forms Assisting in minimizing animal stress and suffering by minimizing noise and other stressors during transport Recording and logging all trips on MyImpactPage Transport Drivers may also be requested to pick up pre-purchased supplies (food, medications, etc.) from local suppliers or donors. Transport Drivers may also opt-in to purchasing certain supplies and being reimbursed by Wildlife Rescue, although this is not a requirement of the position Call AECFV on Saturday mornings to check if there any patients that need to be transported to WRA If no animals need to be transported, if interested you might be able to help when we have transports available from the Langley area that need to come to our Wildlife Hospital
Please note there is no animal handling expected of AECFV Transport Drivers.
Time Commitment All Wildlife Rescue volunteers start with a minimum commitment of 100 hours. Most AECFV Transport Drivers have a set scheduled day per week that they do transports as well as have the option to be on-call with their availability should they want to do more transports. Volunteer drivers pick up the senior at their residences and drives them to their appointment destination. The driver will help the client into the doctor's office, wait for them and then drive them home. Requirements A valid full driver’s license and safe driving record Complete a Criminal Record Check Access to a vehicle that is roadworthy and reliable Submit a Driver's AbstractParking costs are paid by the senior, and mileage is reimbursed through the program. There is no cost for either the criminal record check or driver's abstract and we can help you with both. It is a supervised parental gym time starting in Fall and breaking once the weather improves. It runs most Mondays from 10am - 11:15am and is weather dependent, so if it rains, we plan on having the gym open. We need volunteers to help with the following tasks: Set up (9:15am - 10am) set up gym activities make coffee, set up coffee stationClean up (11:15am - 12pm) put away gym activities clean up coffee station, wash coffee urnPlease stay updated to the Facebook page for details and any changes.
