Volunteer: The Sound of Community - Event Support Volunteers

About the Event

The Sound of Community is a free winter gathering that brings neighbours together through music, performance art, and shared experiences. From singers and dancers to violinists and more, local performers of all ages will share their talents. Volunteers play a key role in creating a warm, welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.


Role Overview

We’re looking for 3–5 friendly, adaptable volunteers to help with set-up, greeting, refreshments, performer support, and clean-up on December 19, 2025. Everyone will pitch in before and after the event, and roles during the show will be assigned based on the flow of the evening.

Volunteers will connect with George and Cher upon arrival.


Volunteer Responsibilities

Before the Event (All volunteers)

Arrive at 4:15 pm (15 min before set up begins)Help set up the event space (chairs, signage, decorations, reception table, refreshment area)Help fold printed programs to handout during the eventCheck in with George and Chere for task assignmentsEnjoy light refreshments before guests arrive

During the Event (Individual assignments will be confirmed on-site. Volunteers may be reassigned as needs shift)

Reception & Greeting (1-2 volunteers)Welcome guestsHelp manage RSVPs and general questionsSign media consent waivers (nametags / red dots to indicate no photo consent) Handout programs Guide people to seatingDoor usher to manage the opening and closing of the door during performances, and ensure food/drink does not enter the performance room


Refreshments Table (1 volunteer)Set up the refreshments areaRefill items as neededKeep the table tidy and accessible


Performer Support (1 volunteer)Assist performers with any needsAssist MC (Cher) as neededHelp ensure performers feel welcome and comfortable. 


General Event Support (All volunteers)

Help direct guests as neededNotice and respond to emerging needs (notify George or Cher as required)Stay flexible as things shift through the eveningEnjoy the entertainment!

After the Event (All volunteers)

Help with clean-up, putting away chairs and tables (if needed) and leaving the space tidyWrap-up check-in with George and Cher before leaving


Date and Time Commitment: Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4:15 pm - 8:00 pm

Set up begins at 4:30 pm.
