Volunteer: Kamloops Christmas Market

The Kamloops Sports Council supports and organizes a variety of sporting and community events throughout the year. They work closely with local organizations to promote active living, coordinate volunteers, and create inclusive, well-run events for the entire community. 

By volunteering at the Kamloops Christmas Market, you play an important role in bringing the community together and helping make the event run smoothly. A great way to get involved in the community, meet new people, and be part of a cherished local holiday tradition. 

This is the right role for you if you are someone who: 

 Enjoys working with people and creating a positive, welcoming environment 

 Is organized, reliable, and comfortable handling money or interacting with the public 

 Wants to support community events and be part of a fun, festive atmosphere 

 Can work well as part of a team and adapt to a fast-paced event setting 
 

A Christmas Market Volunteer’s main tasks are: 

Ticket and alcohol sales (Serving It Right certification may be required) 

Providing support to vendors and answering guest questions 

Ensure a smooth event, assisting with setup, takedown, and general event operations 

Assisting with crowd flow and keeping the event space clean, safe, and enjoyable for all attendees 
 

No previous experience is required to volunteer, and training will be provided before the event to ensure you feel confident in your role. However, experience in customer service or event settings is an asset, and a Serving It Right certification is beneficial for roles involving alcohol sales. 

Time commitment: 
Shifts are 4 hours long each and we ask that volunteers commit to approximately 3 shifts during the 10-day period.

Volunteer: Operation Red Nose


Operation Red Nose is a volunteer-driven program coordinated by the Kamloops Sports Council & Pacific Sport that provides free, safe designated driver services during the holiday season. It helps prevent impaired driving by offering rides home to people who have been drinking, ensuring both them and their vehicles get home safely. 

When you volunteer for Operation Red Nose, you help keep your community safe by providing designated driver services during the holiday season. It’s a rewarding way for you to give back and make a real difference in reducing impaired driving. 
 
Please note: Having a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is essential for driver volunteers. 

This is the right role for you if you are someone who: 

Is responsible, reliable, and committed to community safety 

Enjoys helping others and working as part of a team 

Can stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations 

Has a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (for driver roles) 

Has good communication skills 

A Position Title: Volunteer’s main tasks are: 

Escort Driver 

Drives the volunteer team in their own vehicle. 

Follows the client’s vehicle from the pick-up location to the drop-off location (clients are not allowed in the escort vehicle). 

Keeps track of kilometers driven for fuel reimbursement (gas coupons provided upon completing the Fuel Reimbursement Form). 

Optional: donate $5 in gas coupons back to Operation Red Nose for a chance to win a door prize. 

Designated Driver 

Drives the client’s vehicle safely to their destination. 

Checks for M+S winter tires and valid BC license plates before departure. 

Ensures the vehicle is safe, drives responsibly, and always keeps the escort driver in sight. 

Returns the keys to the client at the end of the ride. 

Must follow all road rules (volunteers are responsible for their own traffic tickets). 

Works with the Navigator at all times. 

Navigator 

Accompanies the Designated Driver in the client’s vehicle at all times (no exceptions). 

Ensures clients sit in the back seat. 

Manages paperwork: fills out transportation forms, receives donations, issues receipts, and completes the Daily Trip Form (rides + donations). 

Manages the team cell phone, contacts dispatch, and coordinates with the Venue Manager for donation payments by credit card. 

Contacts clients directly if needed to arrange pick-up or resolve meeting point issues. 

Phone Operator 

Answers incoming calls from the public requesting rides. 

Records client details (location and destination), ensuring the trip is within service boundaries. 

Passes all relevant client information to the dispatcher to assign rides. 

Training is provided to all Operation Red Nose volunteers to ensure they understand their roles and safety procedures.
