United Way BC supports healthy, caring, and inclusive communities by strengthening vital connections that support people in need. Our organization serves British Columbians, focusing on emergency response, kids and youth, seniors, poverty, mental health, and food security.
Safe Haven Initiative
This is a group where volunteers are gathered up for their passion and interest in helping with SafeHaven Initiative. Having volunteers in one group will simplify the process of communicating immediate needs and ongoing needs of United Way BC Partners.
As part of the BC Safe Haven Resource Network, United Way BC helps build stronger communities by organizing public support for groups that work directly with refugee claimants.
Everyone can play a part in supporting refugee claimants in
BC. Your actions—big or small—make a real difference in helping people feel
safe, included, and at home.
Here are some ways you can help:
1. Volunteer your time or skills with local organizations
that support newcomers.Get
started by registering and viewing volunteer opportunities at iVolunteer.
2. Rent or offer housing to refugee claimants.
Fill
out the Housing Intake Form. The purpose of this form is to
collect the information needed to connect you with settlement
organizations that are supporting refugee claimants to find housing. A
Criminal Record Check is required. It’s a simple process to complete,
and it’s free.
3. Share information in your community to raise awareness
about refugee issues.
4. Welcome newcomers in your community with kindness,
respect, and support.
