Who We Are
A Rocha is an international Christian conservation organization operating in 20 countries. A Rocha Canada (ARC) became a registered charity in 1999 with a mission to transform people and places into healthy communities through three core programs: conservation science (research and restoration of watersheds), sustainable community agriculture, and environmental education for all ages. A Rocha has projects in Surrey, BC, Houston, BC, Winnipeg, MB, and Hamilton, ON. ARC started programming at the property in Surrey in 2010, taking ownership in 2016 after a generous donation from the Neufeld family.
What We Do
A Rocha's BC hub is an environmental centre, heritage site and sustainable farm. It is a living classroom for ecological stewardship, sustainable living, and community hospitality. We are located in the Little Campbell Watershed, an area that is extremely rich in biodiversity. In order to preserve the Little Campbell River - which has been named one of BC’s top twelve endangered rivers by the Outdoor Recreation Council - our work focuses on species-at-risk studies and habitat restoration. Brooksdale also annually welcomes over 3,000 children, families and youth, many of whom come from challenging life circumstances, to participate in hands-on training in environmental stewardship and food literacy. While we host thousands of visitors to our on-site events and programs, we are also passionate about offering local, organically-grown food through our Sustainable Agriculture program. Through these initiatives, Brooksdale is committed to inspire hope, empower communities, and equip people to joyfully and practically care for the earth and those most vulnerable in it
