Who We Are

United for Literacy is a national charitable literacy organization, established in 1899 on the belief that literacy is a right for all. We work collaboratively with community-based agencies to provide targeted, innovative literacy and learning support where it’s needed most.

Low literacy skills are directly linked to poverty, poor health, and high unemployment. Our network of volunteers provides excellent and effective programming to improve literacy in communities across Canada. Last year, folks from coast-to-coast-to-coast volunteered more than 50,000 hours to support over 30,000 learners!

What We Do

In order to achieve our mission, we are committed to finding and using innovative ways to reach the people who need us most. We run and support literacy programs for children, youth, and adults in the Lower Mainland that are inclusive of any individual for whom our assistance is welcome and needed.
