Founded in 1974, Nelson CARES Society is a client-centred charitable organization accredited through CARF. Nelson CARES Society is a not for profit.

Nelson CARES operates affordable housing/emergency shelters; residential/employment services for adults with developmental disabilities; an Advocacy Centre; and, Kootenay Seniors. Vision: A healthy and inclusive community where complete respect for all individuals is an ordinary, everyday occurrence. Mission: Through community collaboration and service excellence, Nelson CARES Society works towards a socially just society by providing programs and initiatives in community development, advocacy, housing, employment support services, and environmental stewardship. NelsonCARES aims to be a reflection of the community it envisions.
