Self-Management BC Programs

Who We Are

Self-Management Programs were developed and evaluated by Stanford University and have been implemented in 26 countries worldwide. These programs are available throughout BC and are supported by the BC Ministry of Health. Pairs of trained volunteer leaders deliver small group workshops, both in-person and virtual.

What We Do

We train interested people who suffer from chronic conditions, chronic pain, cancer and/or diabetes, or are caregivers to those who do, to facilitate our various program workshops with up to 12 participants. All of our programs are free and participants receive a Living a Health Life with Chronic Conditions or Chronic Pain as part the inventory necessary to complete our 6-week workshops. We are currently searching for volunteers who will take our online, 13 session (6 week) training program to provide more workshops in the BC Interior. Volunteers receive a stipend for co-facilitating a 6-week workshop. Trained Volunteers follow a standardized format that has been proven to help people learn to better manage their symptoms. Our programs are considered to be best practice programs in self-management.
