Jeanne Legua, United Way
Jeanne is a community engagement professional with academic training in economics, public policy and community development. Some of her past and present work includes engagement strategy formation, project management, fundraising events, social impact marketing and community-based research. Jeanne is currently a Government & Stakeholder Relations Specialist at UWBC and works along-side community partners and volunteers in the Southern Interior BC.
Natika Bock, United Way
Natika currently works as Regional Community Impact and Investment Coordinator for UWBC in the Kamloops area. She has also served for the last 2 years as the chairperson for the Kamloops Community Action Team, and the last 4 years in emergency response work, including the opioid health crisis.
As a passionate advocate for her community, some of her past works include Community Services Coordinator for Tk'emlúps te Secwe�"pemc, Co-Chair of HomeFree Housing & Supports Committee, and Manager of Supportive Housing for CMHA Kamloops.
Amaan Fazal, United Way
Amaan has been a community volunteer for over 25 years. As a volunteer he has worked in various capacities to serve the needs of member sof all ages in the community. Service to others is an important component of Amaan's life, which brought him into the non-profit sector, after spending the beginning of his career in digital marketing and public relations on both the agency and brand side. With aging parents, aunts, uncles and close loved one, Amaan has become more aware of some of the challenges our aging population faces. This has fueled the inspiration to want to do more for our community, including our older adults, with his work at United Way British Columbia.
Amaan's education and experience in digital marketing and communications allows him to find creative solutions to make tools for health aging accessible and easier to find. In various volunteer roles, Amaan has had the opportunity to lead volunteers in a variety of activities, including: event planning and execution, safety and security, and community-based emergency preparedness and response. In addition to his work at United Way BC, Amaan has served on the Board of Directors for British Columbia Original Minds Association, and is currently a member of the Aga Khan Council for BC.
Michelle Rodgers, Canadian Red Cross
Michelle Rodgers is the Senior Manager for Volunteer Engagement & Experience with the Canadian Red Cross. Ready When the Time Comes is a Canadian Red Cross volunteer engagement program that allows the Red Cross to utilize its partner corporations' valuable human resources to support their community. The Red Cross recruits, trains and prepares employees from Canada's workforce to create a community-based volunteer force that can be mobilized during large-scale natural disasters such as floods, wildfires or tornadoes. Sarina MacDonell, Canadian Red Cross
Sarina MacDonell is an Emergency Manager Practitioner currently working with the Canadian Red Cross as the Regional Manager for Emergency Management, Southwest and Coastal regions. Before this post, she was the Emergency Advisor and ESSD for the City of Abbotsford. Sarina has participated in and managed numerous humanitarian disaster relief and recovery efforts across Canada. With a Diploma in Emergency Management and over ten years of disaster response experience, Sarina has developed a passion for the humanitarian elements of disaster response and the early detection of unmet needs, bridging gaps and early recovery. Focusing on coordinated and collaborative approaches to EM, she is best known for incorporating her two favourite EM philosophies into her operations, 'How do we get to yes?' and ' Do no harm.'

SUMMARY: Join panelists from the Canadian Red Cross and United Way British Columbia who will be sharing on-the-ground experiences and practical tips on how to do volunteer management & mobilization before, during & after climate-related emergencies. In this 90-minute session, the speakers will go over key themes related to emergent response and volunteerism, including:
· Recruitment, preparation and mobilization of volunteers before, during and after climate emergencies - ex. wildfires, floods
· Aligning efforts with your organization's climate emergency response plan and the importance of regional coordination and partnerships
· Embedding trauma-informed and culturally appropriate practices in your volunteer management & mobilization efforts - even in times of crisis!
