Ethiopian Affairs in BC, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting Ethiopian cultural values and history through the arts. As part of Black History Month, we are commemorating the 127th anniversary of the victory of Adwa, a significant event in Black history where Ethiopian forces defeated the Colonial invading force in 1896. This significant victory in Black History changed the trajectory not only for the people in the region, but also for the global community.
The Black History Walk event will also recognize the achievement of Black Canadians towards the progress of the country of Canada. This year the celebration spotlights "Harry" Winston Jerome (September 30, 1940 – December 7, 1982), who was a Canadian track and field sprinter and physical education teacher. He won a bronze medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and set a total of seven world records over the course of his career.
We are gathering to socialize at Swangard Stadium in Central Park, Burnaby, before we start the walk. The walk is a way to socialize, connect and interact between our people as we share our history with other Canadians.
Details about the walk:
