Treasurer

The Board of Volunteer Kamloops is looking for a new Treasurer. The Treasurer is a member of the Executive Board and is responsible for financial & tax reporting, preparing financial statements, signing cheques, and other cash management duties.  

This role is an opportunity to lead and inspire a culture of volunteerism in Kamloops while ensuring the organization operates effectively. If you are passionate about community service and have the skills to lead hands-on within a structured framework, we encourage you to apply.

Financial & tax reporting responsibilities (primarily in April to June)

  • Prepare annual financial statements with accompanying footnotes. Fiscal year end is April 31.  Statements are required to be presented to the Board for approval in mid-March

  • Prepare and file CRA “Registered Charity Information Return”. (6 months after fiscal year-end)

  • Prepare annual grant submissions requirements

Financial statement preparation

  • Maintain a record of revenues and expenses incurred during the fiscal year and reconcile to monthly bank statements 

  • One of the bank signatories

  • Maintain in a file support (invoices, deposit slips, cheque stubs etc)  for reported revenues and expenses

  • Make necessary year end accruals and reclassifications for financial statement presentation purposes

  • Prepare annual fiscal year budget in December/January for presentation at Boards’ February meeting for the AGM

Other responsibilities

  • Renew Director and Officer insurance (July). Renewal form will be emailed to the treasurer.  Can renew online. 

  • Maintain a relationship with the accountant.

  • Maintain record of deposit slips

  • Assisting with Preparation of staff payroll pay expenses 

  • Examine receipts and maintain a record of all revenue and expenses for book-keeping purposes

  • Report to board on how much cash is available during  board meetings

  • Identify ways to continually improve the cash management process

  • Responsible for all government informational returns (example:  stats can or GST) for Members of the Executive Board and expected to attend Board meetings and staff meetings. (one per month)

The person: Recently qualified accountant or someone with a strong bookkeeping background.
