Description

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central and Southern Interior (BBBSCSI), our vision is for all young people to realize their full potential. Our mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships that ignite the power and potential of young people.

As a Study Buddy Mentor, you’ll be matched with a student in Grades 2–8 for a one-to-one mentoring relationship. Once a week, you’ll spend about an hour together on a virtual video call, focusing on schoolwork and building a supportive connection. During these sessions, you’ll help your mentee strengthen their academic skills and practice areas they want to grow in.

This is the right role for you if you are someone who:

  • Enjoys spending time with children

  • Likes helping with academics and schoolwork

  • Is a good listenerwho encourages and supports others

  • Feels comfortable with using technology

AStudy Buddy Mentor Volunteer’s main tasks are:

  • Honouring the commitment to meet with their mentee

  • Supporting your mentee in improving their schoolwork, study habits, and related skills

  • Building rapport by asking questions and sharing about life experiences

  • Providing encouragement, guidance, and positive reinforcement each week

Mentors receive 2 hours of training before being matched, and a staff member provides ongoing check-ins and support. No formal tutoring experience is required—just patience, consistency, and a willingness to help.

Time Commitment

  • 45 minutes to 1 hour per week

  • Runs from October to May, following the school calendar

  • Breaks include 2 weeks in December and 2 weeks in March
