At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central and Southern Interior (BBBSCSI), our vision is for all young people to realize their full potential. Our mission is to enable life-changing mentoring relationships that ignite the power and potential of young people.
As a Study Buddy Mentor, you’ll be matched with a student in Grades 2–8 for a one-to-one mentoring relationship. Once a week, you’ll spend about an hour together on a virtual video call, focusing on schoolwork and building a supportive connection. During these sessions, you’ll help your mentee strengthen their academic skills and practice areas they want to grow in.

AStudy Buddy Mentor Volunteer’s main tasks are:
Honouring the commitment to meet with their mentee
Supporting your mentee in improving their schoolwork, study habits, and related skills
Building rapport by asking questions and sharing about life experiences
Providing encouragement, guidance, and positive reinforcement each week
Training & Experience
Mentors receive 2 hours of training before being matched, and a staff member provides ongoing check-ins and support. No formal tutoring experience is required—just patience, consistency, and a willingness to help.
Time Commitment
45 minutes to 1 hour per week
Runs from October to May, following the school calendar
Breaks include 2 weeks in December and 2 weeks in March
