United Way of the Lower Mainland is proud to sponsor the Coldest Night of the Year put on by The Cloverdale Community Kitchen.
They offers a place of safety and support to those struggling through poverty and homeless in Cloverdale and surrounding areas.
They are able to:
- Serve over 12,000 delicious hot meals annually through our supper program
- Fill hampers for over 400 struggling families in Cloverdale with our Christmas Hamper program
- Provide a warm place to sleep for at risk guests, during winter, with our Extreme Weather Shelter program
On February 23rd, Cloverdale Community Kitchen is hosting the Coldest Night of the Year, a 2, & 5 km winter walk hosted in 125+ cities across Canada in support of our work here in Cloverdale with the hungry, homeless, and hurting.
Volunteer Roles:
Welcome team – greeters (outdoors)
Working in conjunction with Welcome Team, you are responsible for greeting volunteers and walkers with friendly smiles, a warm handshake and some helpful directions towards registration, bathrooms or volunteer check-in.

- Shift: 3:00 – 6:00 pm
- Clothing: Could be outdoors for short stretches – wear layers
- Reports to: Location Director
Route - marshalls
Responsible to assist walkers along route at key intersections or critical corners. Generally encouraging, cheering and celebrating each walker as they navigate the route.
- Total: 12
- Shift: 4:00 – 8:00 pm
- Clothing: Cold weather gear
- Reports to: Route Captain
Registration Team
The Registration Team needs two types of volunteers. Check-In Volunteers are responsible for the speedy and friendly registration of all participants. This involves processing cash, cheques, and waivers, and directing walkers to claim their reward if applicable. 'Cash Management Volunteers' take over once the initial flood of participants has slowed and will be responsible for counting all funds.
