Food Hamper Packing/Organizing: Winter shifts: Chilliwack Local Love Food Hub

Expired

Description

Food Hub Hamper Organizers

UPDATES: Winter season: see especially location changes below

Food Hub will be continuing with hamper runs every second week.

For each delivery date, we will be packing and delivering double-sized hampers.

Thursday mornings:  8:30am -10:30am (every second Thursday)

Needed:

4 volunteers each shift to be on site to assist in getting delivery hampers organized—including packing hamper boxes—and getting the hampers ready for pickup; also, general cleanup and tidying of the warehouse after hampers are loaded up in delivery drivers’ vehicles.

You may sign up for just one shift, or for multiple shifts;

we value and appreciate any time you are able to give.

NOTE: Chris H had been sending extra weekly shift reminders, but it’s getting cumbersome, so that service will end now (sorry; but you folks are amazing and you remember anyway!). Please add reminders to your personal calendars. An accidental “no-show” can really throw off the whole operation.

Winter season UPDATE:

Need to cancel a shift? No worries; life is complicated; but please follow these two steps...

  1. Please email Chris Kizman (Salvation Army coordinator): Chris@salvationarmychilliwack.ca
  2. Also: Please delete your shift in iVolunteer.

These two actions help us replace you as soon as possible.

Location Change UPDATE:

The operation is moving to a new facility.

The location address for Food Hub sometimes displays in odd spots on the ivolunteer page layout, so here it is:

Salvation Army Care and Share Centre, Rear Building

The physical address is 45746 Yale Road

We are working out of our new food warehouse located in the rear of the property.  ENTERING THE COMPOUND IS BEST VIA HOCKING AVENUE.

Turn in the Greek Islands Parking lot and drive Straight to the back of the lot.

You will see a gate opened and you will be driving into the old Wellington Plastics Building.

Drive to the rear bay door past the Quonset Hut and we will be ready to build hampers.

Just arrive a few minutes early for whenever you’ve chosen a shift and all will be explained as you begin.

Thank you so much to everybody who helped out through the summer and fall!

Welcome to new volunteers!

We’ll spread the word about this opportunity; feel free to spread the word, too!

Word of mouth brings in more neighbours to help our neighbours.

REMINDER: You will need to mask up! Thanks for your diligence.

We’re in fairly close quarters when organizing and picking up/loading the supplies—we at CCFC really don’t want anybody getting sick or accidentally spreading sickness while doing this important work. We all need to follow the best public health standards.

Broader details:

Through United Way of the Lower Mainland grants with Government of Canada funding to meet the food insecurity needs of local Chilliwack people that haven’t been served by other food hamper services, Chilliwack Community Services and Salvation Army are teaming up for this food bank initiative called the Local Love Food Hub.

Chilliwack Citizens For Change (Community Cares Initiative) is partnering with these organizations to gather volunteers to prepare and deliver approximately 70 hampers each week.
