This is the second annual Teeyan Festival (now titled MELA SHAUKEENA DA) with the support of United Way British Columbia.
Community Champion Jash Bains has worked hard to bring together performers, vendors and restaurants to celebrate the gathering of women.
About this Event
Teeyan da mela is Teeyan (Punjabi: ਤੀਆਂ) is the women's dance festival of the Punjab region. Giddha can be seen at its best during the celebrations. Celebrated in the month of Sawan when the days of summer have grown longer and hotter, the dancing usually takes place on the bank of some river or pond under big shady trees. Swings are thrown over the branches and the singing, swinging and dancing starts to the melodies that fill the air.
This festival is an opportunity for women celebrate with fellow girlfriends, sisters, sister-in-laws, and mothers. There will be music, clothing and jewelry vendors, henna, food and more.
Volunteers are needed from 12:30pm-6pm. However if you are only available for part of the shift (min 3 hours), please register and we will adjust your shift based on your availability.
We are looking for volunteers to help as general event volunteers. Roles will be assigned on the day of.

Other Helpful Information:
- As this a cultural event for women, at this time we are requesting female volunteers.
- This volunteer location is OUTDOORS
- Training will be provided at the start of your shift.
- Volunteers are able to schedule their own breaks during their shift, please let site coordinators know if you are taking a break.
- Volunteers are encouraged to bring minimal belongings as there may not be a secure place for them while volunteer.
