About this Role:
Embark on an enriching journey to transform lives when you help war-displaced Ukrainians improve their proficiency in English. Many possess basic reading and grammatical skills, but they require nurturing in conversational English. We invite committed volunteers to spearhead conversational groups and workshops, bolstering confidence in these adults and enabling them to communicate their thoughts and feelings effectively in English.
Key Responsibilities:
- Group Facilitation: Help guide conversational circles in break-out rooms (Zoom), ensuring active participation and a safe environment for learners to practice.
- Engagement: Develop interactive activities and games to encourage speaking and improve fluency.
- Feedback: Provide participants constructive feedback, enhancing their pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational tactics.
- Collaboration: Work with other volunteers, ensuring consistency and sharing best practices.
Time Commitment:
From January 2025 to June 2025. The specific schedule will be determined in consultation with volunteers.
Ideal Candidates:
- Experienced teachers with a knack for facilitating group discussions.
- Students majoring in languages, linguistics, or related fields.
- Native English speakers with an eagerness to uplift and educate.
Qualifications
- Completed Criminal Record Check
- Signed Volunteer Waiver
Orientation & Training:
- Volunteer Orientation: Newly recruited volunteers will undergo a thorough orientation, introducing them to our mission, the Ukrainian community, and the specific needs of our learners.
- Information Session: Prior to the start of classes, an in-depth information session will be held.
