Position Summary:
The Community Outreach Volunteer supports the Kapwa Centre for Community Resilience’s mission of fostering community through trauma-informed, culturally grounded programming. This role involves preparing safe and welcoming event spaces, distributing flyers to raise awareness, and engaging community members with care and respect. Volunteers contribute to creating environments where people of all backgrounds can gather, heal, and connect. Ideal for individuals who value grassroots work, relational care, and collective well-being. Please note: Some community events and programming may take place on evenings or weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the physical set-up and take-down of events, including arranging furniture, signage, and materials.
- Ensure the space is clean, accessible, and ready for community use.
- Support post-event clean-up, including stacking chairs, storing supplies, and disposing of waste properly
- Distribute flyers and posters in nearby neighbourhoods, community centres, local businesses, and transit areas to promote upcoming events and programs.
- Engage community members with warmth and respect while answering basic questions about the Kapwa Centre.
- Follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for all.
- Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff in alignment with the Kapwa Centre’s values of care, solidarity, and resilience.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to practicing trauma-informed principles (e.g., choice, trustworthiness, empowerment, collaboration, cultural awareness).
- Able to complete light physical tasks (e.g., lifting chairs, setting up tables).
- Reliable, grounded, and comfortable working in community settings.
- Experience or interest in community-based outreach and working with migrant, diasporic, or racialized communities is an asset.
- Willingness to learn and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
- Preferred, but not required: Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training
