Brella Community Services Society is seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers to provide meaningful social visits to older adults in the community. As a Friendly Visitor, you’ll be matched with a senior to offer regular companionship through in-person visits at the client's home or a local café, depending on the client's preferences and your availability. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys conversation, building relationships, and making a positive impact on someone’s emotional well-being. Visits are scheduled based on your availability, typically once a week for 1–2 hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit with a senior in their home or local community setting for a friendly conversation and social connection
- Offer companionship through shared activities such as chatting over coffee, going for a short walk, playing games, or listening to stories
- Provide emotional support and reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation
- Report any concerns or observations to the program coordinator
Qualifications & Skills:
- Friendly, patient, and a good listener and communicator
- Must be 18 years or older
- Comfortable interacting with older adults, including those living with mild cognitive impairments
- Reliable and able to commit to regular visits up to 1 year
- Clear criminal record check required (provided at no cost through Brella link)
