Description

Vision Mates provide regular, one-to-one assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Matches are made with someone who lives close to your home, school or work.

This is the right role for you if you are someone who:

Enjoys connecting with people

Enjoys working with people who are differently abled

Is interested to learn more about the lives of individuals with vision loss

A Vision Mate Volunteer’s main tasks are

Helping once per week / every two weeks with various tasks and activities, such as: helping to read and sort through mail or other documents, to go for walks or to participate in other recreational activities, to go shopping or run errands, or just to socialize.

Orientation and training are provided online. Experience working with seniors and/or individuals with vision loss or with other disabilities is beneficial but not required.

Time commitment:  The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week and needs based. The time of day and location is variable depending on participant’s needs and volunteer availability. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of 6 months.

Volunteering in this role offers you: Develop or use experience and skills in client service. The satisfaction of making a difference for people who are blind or partially sighted. Reference or confirmation of hours available upon request.
