The Kamloops Track & Field club is a non-profit athletic club. We work with athletes from 3 to 35 years of age but primarily focus on youth athletic development. Coaches train and work with athletes in both track and field events and we hold local indoor and outdoor track meets throughout the year.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in the running and organization of our first indoor track meet of the season. As a Track Meet Volunteer, you will be an integral part of our track meets success. There are many different tasks to make these events happen, and you will have the chance to participate in various roles during the meet.
This is the right role for you if you are someone who:
- Likes working with youth athletes ages 10-18
- Enjoys watching athletes participate in sporting events
- Currently in a youth education or physical education program of study
Some of the Track Meet Volunteer’s main tasks are:
Working alongside track officials to run specific events
Tasks will include measuring, tracking athletes, organizing athletes, racking jump pits, resetting high jump bars, setting hurdles, etc (based on which station you are at)
Set up and take down of meet equipment
Assisting track officials to ensure events are run on time and in accordance with BC Athletic Standard (tracking runners, adjusting hurdles, watching for faults, organizing athletes)
Assisting officials in running jump and throw events (measuring jump and throw distances, raking pits, collecting puts, adjusting bar heights, etc.)
Event officials will work with you when you arrive to explain your station and how best you can assist. Ensuring that you are coachable, punctual, and have a positive attitude to get the job done.
Time commitment:
Shifts for this meet will be approximately 5-6 hours long depending on what station you are assigned.
