Description

Special Olympics BC provides high-quality year-round sport programs and competitions that help people with intellectual disabilities celebrate personal achievement and gain confidence, skills, and friendships. Special Olympics BC offers summer and winter sports for ages eight and up, youth programs for ages two to 18, Athlete Leadership opportunities, and health programs. 

 


As an Admin Volunteer, you’ll play an important behind-the-scenes role that helps keep our sport programs running smoothly. You’ll contribute to the SOBC – Kamloops local committee, where your organizational and communication skills ensure programs are set up, supported, and sustained throughout the year. Each role has different tasks that, but all committee members come together monthly to discuss the last month and any upcoming items.  

This is the right role for you if you are someone who: 

  • Is comfortable with technology (email, Zoom, basic online tools) 

  • Enjoys working with others and collaborating as a team 

  • Can reliably commit to meetings and follow through on tasks 

  • Wants to use their skills to support athletes and programs behind the scenes 

  • Is organized and detail-oriented 

  • Brings a positive attitude and willingness to learn 

An Admin Volunteer’s main tasks are:  

  • Attend monthly committee meetings (1–2 hours) 

  • Share updates and report on completed tasks 

  • Communicate with other committee members and SOBC staff by email or phone 

  • Give input and suggestions on topics that affect the local committee 

  • Take on role-specific duties (e.g., registration, communications, records management) 

Training & Experience 
All new Admin Volunteers receive an onboarding session covering their role, expectations, and background on the organization. Training and support are provided based on the specific admin position you take on. 

Time Commitment 
Time requirements vary depending on the admin role. All Admin Volunteers must attend monthly committee meetings (1–2 hours). Some roles require more time during key seasons, such as the Registration Coordinator, who is busiest during sport start-up periods (September and April). Positions are elected annually at the June meeting.
