Do you enjoy interacting with seniors?
Would you be willing to spare a few hours each month to connect with an isolated older adult?
We would love to hear from you!
Compassionate Neighbours seeks to support isolated seniors by providing opportunities for social connection. We are in need of both male and female volunteers to visit our aging men and women.
Volunteers are matched with a senior with whom they visit on a weekly basis. The purpose of these connections is to check in regularly with the senior as well as to provide a positive friendly connection for them.
This opportunity provides some flexibility and allows you to choose a time and place to connect that is convenient for you and your senior participant, usually between Mon-Fri. Volunteers typically connect with their senior on a weekly basis, and visits can range from a 30-60 minute in-person conversation, or a quick 10-15 min check-in phone call.
This opportunity is available to anyone, including students in need of volunteer hours, youth considering a career in health care or working with seniors, and adults with a few spare hours each month.
Your time spent volunteering will be logged each month in order to provide recognition at the end of your time volunteering with us or on request for education or employment references after a minimum 20 hours.
There is also limited availability for connections by phone or video call, but most seniors prefer in-person visits.
Successful applicants will:
- Agree to an interview by phone
- Complete CNHPS’s orientation process (submit a volunteer application form, attend a virtual orientation session, and sign volunteer consent forms)
- Submit a clean criminal record check (can be completed online via the iVolunteer site, or contact us if you prefer to submit a paper copy to the local police station)
- Live in Chilliwack or be willing to come to Chilliwack and have transportation to visit their senior participant in-person on a weekly basis.
