About this initiative: 

SHARE Family and Community Services volunteers play a social role for seniors living in the following areas: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. Our Social Prescribing  program organize a social group that aims to reduce the social isolation experienced by some older adults by sharing in a safe space with other seniors from the Tri-city community. The service also aims to assist participants in increasing their connections and participating in enjoyable activities like crafts, arts, music, and exercises that allow them to have some time for leisure and foster friendships in a supportive environment.   


What will you be helping with: 

- Supporting the organization and activities on Fridays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. 

- Assist in preparing materials before and at the event. 

- Assist program Coordinators in conducting the activities.  

- Prepare and refill the refreshments (e.g. Make coffee, wash fruit, cut pastries)  

- Engage in conversations or activities with the participants.   

- Willing to wear protective gloves, and if necessary, masks, and aprons.  

- Assist in setting up the venue and the takedown.  

- Help sign-in participants and guide them to the seating area if necessary.  

- Navigate participants to the washroom, assist in serving coffee and food.   


Qualifications Required:   

- Must be 19 years of age or older.  

- Willing to complete a criminal record check.  

- Has availability on Fridays between 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  

- Able to commit for at least 6 months.  

- Comfortable working with the senior population.   

- Patient, caring, and respectful demeanor.  

- Multilingual proficiency is an asset.
