Position Summary
Kusina Volunteers support Filipino BC’s Kusina (meaning "Kitchen" in Tagalog) program, a community kitchen and resource-sharing space rooted in care, connection, and accessibility. This role involves helping prepare welcoming event spaces, supporting outreach through flyers and posters, and engaging community members with warmth and respect.

Volunteers help create an environment where people of all backgrounds can gather, share food, access resources, and connect with community. This role is ideal for individuals who value grassroots work, relational care, and collective well-being.

Please note: Some Kusina programming may take place on evenings or weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with event set-up and take-down, including arranging furniture, signage, food areas, and materials.
  • Help ensure the space is clean, accessible, and ready for community use.
  • Support post-event clean-up, including stacking chairs, storing supplies, and disposing of waste properly.
  • Distribute flyers and posters in nearby neighbourhoods, community centres, local businesses, transit areas, and other community spaces to promote Kusina events.
  • Engage community members with warmth and respect while answering basic questions about Kusina and Filipino BC programs.
  • Help welcome attendees and support a calm, inclusive, and community-centred environment.
  • Follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe space for all.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and staff in alignment with Filipino BC’s values of care, solidarity, and kapwa.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to practicing trauma-informed principles, including choice, trust, empowerment, collaboration, and cultural awareness.
  • Able to complete light physical tasks, such as lifting chairs, setting up tables, or carrying supplies.
  • Reliable, grounded, and comfortable working in community settings.
  • Experience or interest in community-based outreach, food programming, migrant communities, diasporic communities, or racialized communities is an asset.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and receive feedback in a supportive environment.
  • Preferred, but not required: Psychological First Aid training.

How to Apply

We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience in the Filipino community, other racialized communities, immigrant communities, and communities impacted by systemic barriers.
